Public outreach
The INAF Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory carries out an intense activity of dissemination of astronomical culture aimed at the public and schools in collaboration with bodies, institutions and associations, on the Arcetri hill and in the territory.
The day and night organized guided tours allow the observation of various astronomical objects with the historic Amici refracting telescope and with some portable instruments. A scale tour of the solar system in the Observatory's astronomical park welcomes visitors by guiding them to the dome that houses the telescope. Other tools allow to visualize the traces of cosmic rays and to illustrate the fundamental principles of astronomical spectroscopy. An open-air theater, capable of accommodating up to one hundred spectators, allows observation of the sky with the naked eye and hosts cultural events such as readings, conferences, lectures, concerts, theatrical performances inspired by astronomical themes and special events with scientific games for children . A set of proposals designed to share the discoveries of astrophysics research with the public.
